Cruise to Moreton Island National Park from Brisbane or the Gold Coast for a full day exploring beautiful beaches, fresh water lakes, forests and giant sand dunes. Only accessible by 4WD, your guided Moreton Island Tour includes body surfing, a picnic lunch and the opportunity to spot dolphins and whales (June to October) as well as take in the magnificent views across Moreton Island to the Glass House Mountains.
Your day starts with a luxury cruise across beautiful Moreton Bay to Moreton Island. On arrival, you'll board your 4WD and drive off the ferry directly on to the beach. Moreton Island is the world's third largest sand island and 4WD is the only way to get around.
Travel along the western-side of the island through Bulwer, a small holiday and fishing village surrounded by National Park. Traveling further north, visit Heath Island (tides permitting), a low sand island with an abundance of wading birds, soldier crabs and other marine life. Continue to Five Hills Lookout. A short walk will take you to the lookout to take in the commanding views of the Glass House Mountains and Heath Island. It is then time for some body surfing at Yellow Patch and North Point, both great, safe surf locations. There is also time to explore the rock pools and take a walk to Honeymoon Bay, a spectacular secluded beach surrounded by rocky headland.
After a picnic lunch you'll set off to Cape Moreton Lighthouse for commanding views across Moreton Island to the Glass House Mountains. Look out to sea and you might spot dolphins, turtles and whales (from June to October). Moreton Island is also home to hundreds of bird species, including pelicans and wading birds.
Your last stop is Blue Lagoon, one of Moreton Island's beautiful freshwater lakes, where you can take a dip to soak up the naturally occurring tea-tree oils (known as the fountain of youth). Once rejuvenated, begin your return journey along the picturesque Ocean Beach with 38 kilometers of uninterrupted surf beaches. Travel across the Middle Road through thick eucalyptus forest featuring 250 year old Grass Trees before boarding your ferry en route back to Brisbane or the Gold Coast.
