Dress standards are conservative throughout Asia, especially outside major cities. To respect this and for your own comfort, we strongly recommend modest clothing. This means clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. Loose, lightweight, long clothing is both respectful and cool in the predominantly hot Asian climate.
Tipping:
If you are happy with the services provided by your local guides and drivers a tip - though not compulsory - is appropriate. While it may not be customary to you, it is of great significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels, inspires excellent service, and is an entrenched feature of the tourism industry across many Intrepid Urban Adventures destinations. Please consider this when budgeting for your extra expenses on this tour

Tour Itinerary

Meet your expert local guide at your hotel as we start your cultural tour of Brunei. The first stop in this food adventure is Tamu Kianggeh, a market located by the Kianggeh River in downtown of Bandar Seri Begawan.

You will see boats travelling up and down the river, laden with passengers and merchandise, a sight you wont see on most other Borneo tours. In the Tamu mingle with locals as they buy and sell fresh produce. Wander through stalls selling everything from medicinal herbs to vegetables and handicrafts – used in every day life and in traditional ceremonies.

Learn to hail a water taxi then cruise along the river to the largest Malay water village in the world. The water taxis are a common part of everyday life here and the best way for locals to travel across the river or around the water village, and is also a Brunei travel highlight!

Once at the local village, take a short walk across the wooden plank bridges that connect the buildings. Make your way to the home of your hosts and be introduced to the family. There is plenty of opportunity to talk with your hosts and learn about life in the water village. You may even be able to help prepare lunch.

You then experience some local Brunei food and cuisine. Lunch will be Ambuyat, a dish made from sago and eaten with vegetables, fish or meat. Try eating it Brunei-style with a pair of bamboo sticks! Bid new friends goodbye before transferring back to your hotel as we finish our Brunei tour.
