We decided to leave Aldermaston, having dropped the car off with Andy and headed off back towards the first lock at Aldermaston Wharf. We entered the lock with another boat and Clive started to operate the paddles to lower the water. I was standing on the top of the boat holding the centre rope when I noticed the boat tipping sideways as the water dropped. I shouted to Clive telling him that the boat was tipping (worryingly I could hear crashes from inside the boat - were all my Spode plates smashed on the floor?) when suddenly it seemed to drop and inch and right itself. We have no idea what had happened - there was nothing obvious in the lock that it could have caught onto - but it could have been something as simple as a brick sticking out that the hull got caught on. Anyway fright over, I went to investigate in the kitchen. All the drawers on one side were open and my container of kitchen utensils was on the floor - but miracle of miracles - the plates were all still in the plate rack! Phew.
