Thompsons on Tour

Limehouse, UK

Monday 21 July 2008

We moored at Battlebridge Basin in King's Cross - at the London Canal Museum's mooring for three nights. We'd arranged for our mail to be sent to the post office in Caledonian Road so walked up there to find thatnot only did they nothing about the Postr Restante service, but hadn't got the mail. Humph. So we told them we would print off a copy of the PO website page that described the service for them! We then decided to take a trip to Limehouse Marina - our next stopping place. This is a lovely marina in the city, close to Canary Wharf where all the big banks are located. All new aparments, pubs abnd restaurants etc. I spotted a very fast catamaran zipping along the river which we decided to investigate. It turned out to be a Thames Clipper - a commuter service which runs from Woolwich Arsenal to Embankment. We bought a day rover ticket and went rto Greenwich where lunch was of the order of the day at a very old pub. Greenwich Whitebait - yummy!

In the evening Clive had discovered a Ceroc venue in the city which we visited for a dance. Good fun.

On Wednesday we cruised to Limehouse Marina and luckily found a mooring straight away at one of the "24 hour" free visitor moorings. We registered with the lockkeeper and aksed if we could stay a bit longer. He was very amenable and thanked us for actually telling him we were there as a lot of people don't bother.

Another walk in the eveing took us to the Prospect of Whitby a famous pub at Shadwell (established in 1532!). Gorgeous weather.
