Breakfast is a buffet style arrangement with, as usual, far too many staff, with a boy serving at each dish of food. We choose from idlis, sambar, a potato and onion curry, coconut chutney (a very runny affair) and a hard boiled egg. They don't seem to run to toast and so we have bread which is typical of the indian stuff we've encountered before - white, thin, very sweet and falls to bits when you try and spread anything but the softest butter on it.
We ask for some bread to be toasted, but when it comes back it's still exactly the same consistency, but has a vague brown hue on the surface. Asking for black coffee seems to cause a stir - you'd think they'd never heard of it - but once everyone has sprung into action a pot of black coffee soon appears. And of course we have brought our own jar of marmalade with us as the jam they serve is like slimy artifial flavoured raspberry jelly.
Today is a day in the resort, catching up with reading and organising future activities. One future activity we arrange is a trip out tomorrow to see some sights. We decide what it is we'd like to visit and Clive finds a local driver and agrees a rate for the day. In the games room we discover a full-size snooker table. It's recently been re-covered and is in very good condition. Sarah's never played snooker, so we have a game under the guidance of the games room 'manager', at the end of which he gives Sarah a one-on-one lesson in "Standard Shot No. 1". This is basically hitting the white ball in a straight line down the table.
We also have a few games of table tennis. On previous occasions when we've played, some years ago now, Sarah has come out on top. Clive is determined to reverse this trend but by the end of the day the balance of power is still with Sarah. However, the big news of the day is that the bat-and-ball beach game total has now reached 30!
