Emma and Jake made me promise to wake them up at 3am to watch the London Olympics 2012 opening ceremony !
Picture the scene...3am, kids and I are snuggled up under a duvet in our TV lounge area (Damian has a sore throat and decides he needs to sleep) waiting in anticipation. We are tuned into BBC world...no coverage. We switch to CNN...no coverage! Arghhhhh! We then start flicking...and find Star Sports live. Hooray, they have coverage but the sound is awful, there is no commentary and we have missed the first all important 15 minutes, and worst of all they break for adverts!!!!! Hey ho, we accept all this, at least we have coverage!
We were glued to the TV screen.
We particularly enjoyed Daniel Craig and the "queen" descending via a parachute into the stadium and Mr Bean playing Chariots of fire. When the athletes came out at 4.30am, I declared bedtime! I was not popular...
We all slept in till 9am :-)
A very lazy day today spent by the pool and the beach. Jake made a new friend, 10 year old Jack. A very nice English boy. His family have been living in Dubai for the last 5 years. They have come to Da Nang to escape the 50 degrees heat! Jake and Jack played together all day!
Only 2 talking points of note today.
A wedding on the hotel beach front. It was a bit windy this afternoon and it was entertaining to watch the Hotel staff frantically trying to sweep away the sand off the red carpet they had laid down leading to the gazebo! It was also interesting to witness guests drinking beer while the couple (vietnamese bride /aussie groom ) were making their vows! Those of us being nosey all cheered and clapped loudly when the ceremony was over...
2nd talking point ..jellyfish struck again today! This time Emma's left thigh was the target! Again, slight stinging for 30 minutes...totally fine now.
Dinner at "Street" in Hoi An.
Another one of these restaurants that helps get kids off the streets and give them an opportunity to achieve and be part of something. It was delicious, especially the calamari and the pork ribs. We may be returning...
Tailored made purchases made yesterday were then collected :-)
Jake convinced us he would like a long sleeve shirt as well. Fabric chosen,
Jake measured...we pick up tomorrow.
Watching women's weight lifting as I write tonight. Hmmmm. Would prefer gymnastics...
