Walked around Inglewood, CA this am for 3 hours looking for geocaches-no luck but explored the area! went to Hollywood Park and saw racetrackand casino. Went to LAX and met Sarah and Peter's plane. Had lunch at a Mars themed circular restaurant called Encounters. Then headed to our gate for the flight to Auckland. Left at 10:00 pm April 17 and arrived April 19 at 545 am. Long flight but not too bad-having the skycouches helped. Picked up campervan and had first experience driving left sided- it will take some getting used to! had lunch at a local cafe, picked up groceries and headed out. Thanks to Pete and Timmy (the GPS) we made it thru Auckland headed north to Paihia. Took SH1 thru Orewa, stopped at Ruakaka and had deep fried mussels from a raodside fish stand-delicious! Beautiful scenery and lots of sheep (some were pink!), cattle, turkeys. Drove thru Whangarei (large town with an oil refinery and neat islands called the Hen and Chicken Islands. Stopped for the night at Bay of Islands Holiday Park. Steve did an awesome job driving- the roads are windy, twisty, narrow with lots of tandem logging trucks that you always encounter on the narrow bridges. Patty is sitting in the back so she won't nag the whole drive!
