First day went pretty well. We figured out how my teaching is going to work so I'm excited to get started with that. For his classes I'll be taking over first years (13 year olds) on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and teaching ratios and proportions.
I'm still really confused as to how their schedule and curriculum works here. Mr. Sinnot has first years four times a week and we'll be similtaneously be teaching two different chapters. Each day they meet at a different time so I'll have to put aside my love of having a schedule/routine everyday. Mr. Sinnot also has fifth years (i think that's juniors for us), but they are getting ready for their end of the year exams. I'll mostly be helping out and working one on one with struggling students.
So for this first two weeks, I'll be getting into it kind of slowly. I'll start working with kids this week and getting an idea as to where their math ability is at. Then next week I'll teach for two days as well as working with the fifth years. After that we have two weeks off. Since I do have a good amount of free time, hopefully I'll get most of my planning done before those two weeks. Once we're back, I have three more weeks where I'll probably be picking up another teacher's class.
I'm excited to start planning and working with the kids. I didn't get a whole lot of time with them today but everyone at my school is very welcoming. I should have a great experience, I guess check back in a week to see if I'm still this positve after I start teaching!
Oh and my picture for this blog was taken about halfway through my walk to school. You can see the park I walk through and my school not too far away.
