This morning we met a van driver complete with tour guide, and drove a few hours to Girona. He called it, the Florence of Spain. But before that beautiful town we drove past a ways to see the Dali Museum of Art.
Let me say what we are all thinking. Drugs. Lots of them. Now I must admit he is an amazing artist, but some times if you can't think anything appropriate.... at least don't draw a picture of it!
He was an artist obsessed with nudity (and the things that go along with it). His childhood was troubled, father cheated, mother died, moved out on his own very young. I'm just gonna through some drugs in here cuz that's what I think happened lol, though not a fact. Went to art school, art school said they couldn't teach him, he was so good. Made an artist club (like with Picasso, etc). This group painted in rebellion of Franco. Later he stole his friend's girlfriend and married her, though she was the love of his life.
He made this museum himself (with his friends' work also) as a tribute to the town Figueres, which was partially destoyed by the Spanish Civil War.
Now what a history lesson!
Later we actually went to Girona, ate a very nice lunch. I tried some salad, but quite believably didn't finish it. :) We toured the town climbing the lesser-know wall of Girona (I made that name up) and saw a beautiful Catedral like La Sagrada Familia.
We returned at about 7:30, ate with our family and began to wind down.
How about the beach tomorrow???
