Yao Liang & Hui Sin's Footsteps

Ocean Park, Hong Kong

Friday 14 July 2006

We have some changes in our itinery this morning. Due to Siting's Memory Card being full, we need to find a internet cafe where we can upload the photos. And also Fei, Siting and dAr needs also to check out something related to NUs stuff so in the end we found 1 internet cafe which looks like a "黑店". The NUs stuff is settled but they are having problems with the uploading, it's too slow and so I offered to go back to the hotel which is within walking distance to take my extra memory card to lend her. (I like to take photographs so normally I carry more then one memory card around.)

After that we set off to hunt for a Chinese Dian Xin restaurant which Simon and Jun Jun came the other time they came to Hong Kong. After much trouble walking around, we found it in the end and settled down for hot pipping porridge, egg tarts, hot spring rolls, fried squids and not forgetting hot Chinese tea. It's really a good and satisfying breakfast that we have no complains about.

After the full breakfast, we parted. Simon and Jun Jun decided to give Ocean Park a miss because they have been there before and wanted to spend the day shopping. So the four of use headed down to Admiralty Station where Fei Fei took a lot of photo with the signage as she lives in Admiralty too, but in Singapore. After that we took a bus from the basement of Lippo Centre to the entrance of Ocean Park.

I must give an introduction on the geography of Ocean Park. The whole park is situated near the end of the island with a ridge running in between it, breaking the park into two major parts. To get to the other part, we need to take the free cable car provided in the park to the other side. The cable car offers breath-taking views of the whole region.

The shops at the entrance already captivated us before we actually went in. The cute plushies looking at us and we immediately spend a lot. After that we are greeted by the longest escalator I've ever seen (Comparable to Langham Place) and we have a lot of time to look at brochures and take photos. On top of the hills are rides that we all don't like. Quite a waste of money for people who don't like roller coaster rides.

After that we saw a lot of the aquarium creatures like seals and jellyfishes and sharks. One particular exhibit amazes me. Its the Atoll Reef Aquarium. They have an overpopulation of marine fishes in them with an artifical island in the middle. I could even see stingrays swimming at the surface of the water and turtles dancing in the waters. Too bad Singapore didn't have the place for this kind of exhibit or it will be very very nice.

The next exhibit which I left me with great impression is the panda enclosure which houses 2 pandas. The girls like this one a lot too and listed it as a must go of the day. The pandas are cute and we were lucky to meet them during their feeding time and we were treated with a sight of them feeding. I do have some videos of them so you all can browse through them.

The last exhibit is my favourite Goldfish Pagoda. Even though I'm not particularly into Goldfish, I'm still amazed by the many types of Goldfish the world has and I took a lot of photos here.

The only thing I regretted though is that I didn't get the chance to see the dolphins in action due to the sheer number of people queuing up. So an advice to people going to Ocean Park, be there more than half an hour early to get a seat.
