Cave 16 - the Kailasanatha Temple

The unrivaled centerpiece of Ellora, this structure was designed after descriptions of Mount Kailash, the abode of Lord Shiva. It was carved out of a single rock covering an area twice as big as the Parhenon in Athens. It took 100 years to complete with the removal of 200,000 tonnes of rock.
