The Ellora Caves are an UNESCO site with over 100 caves, 34 open to the public. They stretch over 2 km, dug side by side in a wall of high basalt cliff near Aurangabad. The caves were carved from 600 AD to 1000 AD and encompass monasteries and temples dedicated to Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism.
