We just got out of bed so nothing to report other than the weather, which is slightly overcast but warm. Today we plan to take the ferry to Iluka, which is the headland across the Clarence river. It's a very natural area with a small community. We have been trying to blend in but apparently we have an accent, which gives us away. I just hope that our accent sounds nice. Maybe it sounds really sexy? Oddly, I never noticed we had one. They also say things differently here, ie "how are you going?", for which I reply "by foot" and then they look at me weird. It may be a substitute for "how are you"...I will try a different response next time.
Yesterday was very overcast and worse, our tour was cancelled due to sickness in the Guide's family. We could not even get a coffee because of a major power failure that lasted a good part of the day.
We instead took our own tour and visited the marina and the golf course where we finally got face to face with the illusive Australian kangaroo. We managed to get really good pictures of these deadly marsupials. Their powerful hind legs can kill instantly, while if they are only grumpy, they will challenge you to a boxing match. We are still looking for koala bears and venomous platypuses. Everything is dangerous here, the crocks are particularly grumpy.
Our next stop was Angourie, the next southern headland, which boasts the blue pools. The community is tiny yet affluent - very pretty with a national park attached. Very dramatic scenery and the pools although not blue, very cool. They're basically holes cut out of the rock through erosion and one was the beginning of a quarry, right off the ocean.
We ended the night at Le Sol a mexican restaurant in town. Surprisingly it was very good.
Nat had a revelation that eating out here is only slightly more expensive than at home. After a couple of examples I think she is right. Our dinner cost 65 dollars and had we gone to Pancho Villa the same meal would of cost about 60. There is no tax or tip to add to the bill, so what you see is what you get.
If today turns out rainy we will try to see a movie at the local cinema.
Even with yesterday's overcast conditions, I seem to have got a lot of sun. I think Nat is darker than she has ever been sort of an off white with occasional freckles if I had to describe it.
That is it for now.
