Today we said goodbye to Yamba and headed back down the coast to do some camping. As indicated in the previous blog we are in SW Rocks on our "wing it day". Wing it day is Nats way to get away from my detailed itinerary. A rebellion of sorts, away from logic and good decision making. More of a intuitive approach. Of course we spent 30 minutes on the internet looking at the only 2 campsites available ( there were actually 3).
The first campground was acceptable, but we preferred the national park grounds which was located at the old jail and only a 3 minute walk to the ocean. It also is full of kangaroos! Our site is at the end of a dead end lane and we are the only ones here. There is a big advantage traveling in the off season. The ocean sites were mostly taken and very sardine like and twice the price. After a dip in the ocean we ate Thai in the nearby town of SWRocks and called it an early night.
Oh, on our way back we saw a brush tail possum, a cat size weasel that snarled at us then climbed a tree. I do not think he would dare take us on especially while the car was in drive!
Wednesday morning after a so so sleep (weird animals were fighting nearby) we awoke to a family of kangaroos having breakfast on our site. So weird, they are everywhere, like Canada geese at home.
We could have certainly stayed longer here but now where off to port Stephens.
Wednesday night and we have not been able to connect to a hotspot yet, so this entry is getting long. It took about 4 hours to get to port stephens including lunch. The community sprawls across a bay, with at least 2 big marinas. Lots of sport fishing boats I.e. Big 250k cruisers with lots of gear. I tried my luck fishing on the shore but came up empty.
Supper was in town as we are almost out of Yamba left overs. Fish and chips served in paper wrapping, not bad.
Tomorrow we have to pack up early and get back to Sydney. It's also the last day with the mighty Camry which has not missed a beat. After this we are on foot.
Early Thursday morning and were all packed up. Luckily it did not rain overnight so were in good shape. We almost took the cheapest cabinet 95 dollars a night, but for a 65 dollar savings, I would gladly jump in the harbor fully clothed.
Only annoyance at these grounds are all the birds and their annoying singing! They stop around 11pm and then another set start at 430 am. When does anything sleep around here?

Jean Question: you are mentioning all of these amazing animals, yet you are posting pictures of cats that look suspiciously Canadian on your blog....am I missing somthing? Perhaps you should sic them on the birds? LOL.
Elias Port Stephens seems very pretty, nice mountains at entrance. Lots of nice beaches, blue water and bays. There's pineapple fish there too.
Sylvie Hey Marc! Having fun downunder! Yea mate, matt, or matte,.. anyway .. having fun?
