We made it back to Sydney on Thursday from Port Stephens and returned the mighty Camry. It is both good and bad as we are no longer incurring the daily 28 dollar expense and responsibility of keeping it in one piece but now we are no longer as independent.
That day we took up residence with Sanda and Dave as well as Alexia a, good friend of Sanda and Nat from Toronto. She is also here for the wedding. Supper was allot of fun as we all headed for the pub for a cook your own steak meal.
Friday was wedding prep day, it was interesting to see the bride and groom go through the motions of getting ready. Quite a nervy sort of thing. We also had to dress up and look pretty. Limo picked us up along with the groom and Alexia and we headed to the church. We were all looking very dapper and pretty. The bride was at another location getting ready. Other than the continuous rain the ceremony went off without a hitch. The reception was at a venue off the water, with bride and groom showing up by water taxi. It was a great night of eating, drinking, dancing and meeting new friends.
Saturday Dave and Sanda picked up Mcdonalds breakfasts, and we then packed up Sanda's car and a borrowed SUV with all our stuff for the planned beach adventure at Boomerang. But first we stopped at Norah Head for a BBQ at Dave's parents home (Steve and Liz). Again great food and company. We ended the evening with a walk to the local lighthouse.
Sunday morning started with the men taking a quick dip into the ocean, followed by breakfast at a local eatery. Norah Head is again a beautiful little community with stunning rock formations on the coast. Steve and Iiz are quite lucky to retire there and only be an hour or so out of Sydney.
We were back on the road to Boomerang beach, approximately 2 hours past Norah Head. Sanda and Dave rented 2 holiday houses for family and guests only a few minutes from the beach. These are well appointed accommodations and not at all like the Dodgy Dolphins. One has a pool, for which we took advantage as the winds made beach swimming both dangerous and annoying today with all the sand in the air.
The weather has improved, sun, heat and warmth!! Beats the last couple of rainy days. The forecast is somewhat uncertain and we have brought movies just in case.
Tomorrow, there are no plans other than taking it easy, maybe hitting the beach if the wind let's up.
Monday was an overcast day, but a good day to catch up on things. The girls drove over to Forster about 35kms up the coast to do some shopping and pick up some trashy magazines. The boys went scouting for fishing gear and some good spots. I took the opportunity to do a 3 hour run/hike down the coast. I visited 4 different beaches and hiked 2 different national park trails.
Once every one was back, we hit the beach for some surf fishing. Some of the girls cheered on. Unfortunately for me and Steve, Dave was the only one to land a brim, which is like a light colored bass. Otherwise a great experience, and much better than being at the office.
Tuesday morning was beach day, this time everything was perfect, sun, wind, waves. Luckily there are 3 nearby beaches, and this time we went to Elizabeth beach. A smaller yet more secluded beach. Because of the direction of the winds the waves were barely big enough to boogy board. Dave and I did some snorkeling and found an abundance of fish and even came across a small stingray. Nat even went out for a snorkel and saw the ray.
We also played French cricket which is a weird game where you have defend your lower legs with the cricket bat from other players who are drilling the ball at them.
By noon we headed back to the house and ate take out burgers, yumm!
We lazed around doing various things for the rest of the day, then at 4pm the gang went to Seal Rocks for sightseeing and I went back to Elizabeth beach to do more snorkeling. I guess I was enthused by our earlier swim that morning. I also wanted to swim from this beach to shelly beach around the rocky headland. The experience was great, as I not only swam the half hour around the headland, I saw a sea turtle up close! (I rule) And shelly beach was completely deserted. The only downside was walking back to my shoes on a gravel path barefoot.
The night ended with group supper consisting of Dave previously caught fish as well as left overs on the barby followed by watching movies.
