Bound to Ramble

New York, New York

Thursday 4 September 2008

Hello Eveyone!

I am currently writing this as Matt is running around Central Park.

Firstly, we arrived in New York only to discover that my bag was still in London, cheers Terminal 5! Not sure why this happened but they gave me $50 to buy some new stuff. Anyway so we finally found our hostel and without realising i had given them an expired card so they rented out the room we had booked. Thankfully they found a space for me in a girls dorm but unfortunately that was the last room. It was midnight by this point and the last thing we wanted to do was try and find another hostel so they pulled down this bed in the luggage storage room and Matt slept on that. It was the grotiest hottest room i have ever seen I felt terrible as i lay in my air conditioned room!!

Anyway so the following morning we got up early and went for pancakes and bacon, I attempted to consume it all but it defeated me. We then walked through Central Park, such a beautiful park with statues and lakes a plenty. We spent most of the day wondering round looking in a few shops and hanging out around the student area of NYU and went over to Grand Central Station...at rush hour. Very exciting and such an amazing building! At dusk we went up the Rockafella building and looked out over the Empire State building and the rest of the Manhattan skyline is was lovely. After that we went for kebabs at an Afghan restaurant and very wearily made our way back to the hostel.

So that brings us on to yesterday. Feet and Legs stiff from the days befores walking we made our way to the National History Museum, many a stuffed animal and dinosaur fossil to be seen and we sneekily managed to get in for free which made it even more enjoyable! We then had a walk through Chinatown, tried dumplings (not good!) and found a street vender selling noodles for a $1 and sat down overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge. We then walked over the bridge, amazing views, into Brooklyn and had a wonder round Brooklyn Heights. We walked around Prospect Park and caught the subway to a bar. We struck up conversation with some of the locals while having a Bud light and later one of the guys bought us a Brooklyn Beer....

It was because apparently we were making major mistakes by drinking Bud light, i still dont really understand why. Bud light tasted good, Brooklyn Lager tasted like weird gone-off sausages. strong though.
