Private Tour: Venice Gondola Ride with Serenade
Better late than never!
I realize that I haven't blogged in quite a while, but I will try to make up for here.
Well since I last checked in, our lovely friend Mariliise is has finished her exams and classes at FH and she has since moved to Hawaii in search of employment. We had a family farewell dinner at T.G.I. Fridays... How exotic... Not.
Before she left, the two of us and Sarah came with us on a boating trip on the Donau- one of two rivers that cut through the more modern part of Vienna. The river isn't far from the United Nations offices and other official offices. Surprisingly enough, no one had any issues with me commandeering the vessel for about an hour. Honestly, once I got it out of running in a circle, it was smooth sailing!
I also finished two classes this week and had my Marketing and Business Strategies Management classes. Much studying was required and thankfully it paid off. Yet another sign that this term is nearly done. Sad!
A week later, Martin and Oscar also left which really made me realize how little time left I have here.
One evening that week Robin, Sarah, Vlad and my buddies Ella and Marcus and I all ventured out to a bar called Pointers to watch the Finland vs Canada hockey game and cheer on our team. Being ever the patriot, I brought small flags and flag pins for fellow Canadians who might be cheering them on as well. I had a chance to meet a few nice students from Toronto who were here studying as well and who really appreciated the swag! I also met a lady originally from Montreal who had moved to Vienna 30 years ago after visiting the city with her parents as a child. She lost most of her French and didn't feel comfortable speaking it with me but really enjoyed reminiscing about Canadianisms. Loved it!
The following week included my long-awaited trip to Porec, Croatia (pronounced porridge)! But of course not before a writing my co-op applications and cover letters for my Fall term.
The trip consisted of nothing but beach time which is exactly what I needed after a week of applications and exams.
We took the night train from Franz Josef at around 8pm and didn't arrive until 7am the next morning. The whole thing was news to me because I thought we were in for a quick 5 hour trip. Thankfully we had beds in our cabins.
The middle car had a disco- lights and all. In theory, it seems like a great idea, but realistically it isn't. Someone pulled the emergency break at some point in the evening and it was a domino effect. Luckily I was no on the bottom!
We had wonderful weather and the music was great on the beach. I managed to get a serious sunburn but other than that, no real complaints. We were a large group staying at the resort together which was fun too.
There always seemed to be something going on and something to do while there. A big German breakfast was provided which was a great start to each day which usually followed changing into beach clothes for sun and fun. There also was a DJ on the beach we were at each day which was a fun addition.
We headed home early Monday morning, taking an afternoon train at 3pm and arriving in Vienna at 1am. It was nice to train back during the day so we could see some of the Slovenian countryside. Sadly, this was also the last trip that my camera worked properly on. Oh well, we'll see if I can't get it fixed before my trip to Paris!
Great to be home in Vienna!
