The FT's Escape From Reality

Quito, Ecuador

Wednesday 26 November 2008

We transited through Quito, which is the capital of Ecuador and by far the highest city we have visited. It reminded me of the Alps, but a little (though not much)warmer, with green mountains either side of the valley that the city sits in and the vegetation is very European; green fields, rolling hills, hedges and woods.

We met up with JJ & Jen at our hotel, called Los Alps - an interesting place. Huge rooms, eclectic décor, an open fire and lots of wood; it felt very Scottish. Once again the staff were great. Jodie's cold continues so there was a little bit of coughing in the cab from the airport. This was obviously picked up by the driver as he popped into the hotel for a bit of a chat and 5 mins after we got to our room a cup of hot orange was presented to Jodie along with strict instructions that she must keep her jumper on.
