It's Sunday and I'm preparing mentally for another tough week of workouts. I can honestly say that I was not physically prepared for what our Strength Coach Eric put me through. It's been hard and tough, but different. He focuses a lot on hip flexibility and stability which I've never really did (or been told to do). It's not all about putting a ton of weight on the rack and the squat it out. He focuses on doing it right first, with the right technique, every single rep. So even though I wasn't ready physically, I think I was ready mentally. But all of this helps when you get great food 3 times a day, drink tons of water and Gatorade, and also when Coach Eric tells us to come in the weight room 40 minutes before workout or running just to do some drills with the trigger point equipment, which I can already feel helps.
Even though I know next week is going to be tough and dirty, I can't wait.
But just to go through what I do during a week day at IMG academy. I wake up at 7:35 and go eat breakfast at 7:45. Then I'll head to the weightroom at 8:10 - 8:15 with the other football guys and do trigger point exercises for 20-30 min before heading out to the practice field, which takes about 15 min to get to. Then at 9 we start our warm-up and exercises for the day. Each day there's a different focus point like Lateral movement, Speed, conditioning, Acceleration etc. We're probably done with that at about 10:15 - 10:30. We'll then eat lunch at 11:30, and after that we relax till 2:30 where we have our lifting session. After the lifting session, me and my Canadian friend Joe, usually go take an icebath for 15 minutes before heading over to eat dinner at 5:30. Then during the evening there are always trips to Walmart, Target, The movies, etc.
I will try to get permission to make a full campus tour for you guys. So you can really see what IMG is. And I'll also try to make a video of my day.
Right now we're 10 football guys at practice. There should be coming more in during next week though. I can't wait to meet the other (defensive) players (since I'm a lonely Defensive Lineman with all these Offense guys). They'll move in the two apartments that we share. There are 5 bunk beds in each apartment, so there is room for 10 guys, which will eventually limit the space. We'll then move over to Ascender Hall in August, which is where all the students stay at during the school year. But right now there are a lot of campers for all the different sports, and they stay at Ascender Hall at the moment.
Happy 4th of July out there to all you American readers. In C-dorm we ordered Pizza and had a Madden tournament which did not end very well for me (not going into details). Even though we didn't do much on the 4th, we have been relaxing in the pool all weekend, and we went to watch the new transformers movie saturday, which was better than expected. It's pretty much a gigantic robot, riding an even bigger robot dinosaur who breaths fire! No more need to be said but then that it also stars Mark Walberg and his massive guns! Like what more do you need in a movie? Even though the movie got a lot of bad reviews, I still loved it. And the creators just get better and better with making the transformers seem so real, and all the crazy special effects. It's amazing.
Even though IMG is great and I'm having a great time, I still miss people back home in Denmark. It's weird not thinking that you'll see your family in the evening at dinner. Miss you guys a lot. Hope you all are well.
Thanks for reading and I'll try to make updates every 1-2 weeks. And I'll try to post more pictures, I just need to get used to having a smart-phone that can do that.
HF, over and out.
