There Is No Knowing Where You May Be Swept Off To

Tel Aviv, Israel

Sunday 15 June 2008

Okay, so finally, after about 20 hours of traveling, I AM IN ISRAEL! It is absolutely amazing how much has happened in the past three days, though I imagine it is really only two. One thing I have to say that is awesome about Israel already, is that they have free WiFi in the airport. Good job Israel, good job.

I have not seen much but the airport at this point, the plane landed at about 2:30 AM, and aside from the arrivals hall where I have been waiting for the rest of my fellow diggers, I have not seen any thing more of Israel. The first thing that I have noticed is that there are pretty much NO signs in English. Not that they are required or anything, it just struck me. All signs are in either Arabic or Hebrew, which makes every sign a)look really cool and b)make no sense to me. Anyway, Israeli money, sheckles, are wicked cool looking. First of all they are not made out of paper, but this crazy smooth plastic stuff, and there are these cute little windows in the bottom corner. There is Hebrew all over it and Arabic too. Seriously, the US has some of the ugliest money.

Anyway, I have been sitting in this airport for far too long, but it has been nice to get to know some of the people who are going to be on the dig with me. I don't really know what area I will be digging in, but there are a lot of people coming from all over the world to come and dig, I have been getting to know Chris, a Norwegian writer who has decided to come to Megiddo to do some research for his next novel. There are also fellow GW students who range from fellow Archaeology majors, to International Affairs. Bottom line, everyone wants a cool experience and to have some fun in Israel, whether or not they plan to have a career related in anyway to the next three weeks is irrelevant.

Anyway, my computer is dying and I think I should try to grab a nap before we get to the site.
