This is our second day in Hyderabad.
Day one was spent traveling here from Mumbai via an Air India flight (about one hour) and then a longer period in a Taxi whilst the driver tried to locate our Hotel.
First impressions were good as the Airport (an International one) is a beauty - clean, efficient etc. The roads into town were also much better than many we have travelled on in India
The Hotel (which will remain annonymous for the moment) has been a huge let-down though, best summed up by the following slightly amended quote:- "A truly vile hotel, worth visiting if only to have an experience of unsurpassable vileness".
Locales visited today included:-
Charminar - a structure built in 1591 to commemorate the founding of Hyderabad;
Chowmahalla Palace - number of buildings originally constructed for the ruling Nizams of Hyderabad in 1750 but then added to over the next 100 years. A prime example of how people with no special skills or virtues are given (or who have stolen) all of the power and 99% of the money of a part of the World. They then, over very lengthy periods, squander both and their memories stagger on courtesy of tourists like us.
Laad Bazaar - Oddly enough, a Bazaar where you can buy stuff you probably don't need. This one specialises in pearls which we neither need nor want.
Buddha Statue in a lake in town (Hussain Sagar) - another dissapointment despite it being 17.5 metres high and weighing 350m tonnes.
Perhaps photos will bring these sites to life but at the moment the photos are on a SD Card in my pocket and I have no way to upload them on this PC run by the Hotel.
We hve arranged to escape from here on a flight to Chennai on Wednesday morning - maybe we can access a functioning WiFi area from there.
Cheers for now.

Aliya b*****, sorry about the crappy hotel!
floppyboots It's our own fault I guess and many bits of the town are quite good.
