Tashkent to Osh
We were too knackered last night to do much so we visited a local restaurant that baked some specialist breads good stuff. Met a nice English lady who was travelling with a friend from Moscow to Bejing by train. Set off this morning into a right mess, apparently some roads in Tashkent centre a closed to bikes so we spent most of the morning arguing with the police about whether we should be allowed down some roads or not. Didn't see anything of interest in the city either, frankly given the choice I wouldn't go back. Had the usual country bumpkin police presence stopping us every five minutes arrived at the border hot and bothered. Did the usual laborious customs paperwork at the Uzbeck side then were pleasantly surprised to find the Kyrgz didn't bother they stamped the passports and said on your way. The ride into Osh was amazing it was like a huge street party not sure anybody we met was even half sober felt like Dodge City on a Friday night. An enduring memory will be Tony the leader, while trying to find the hotel, giving a piece of paper with the hotel name on to a guy who was clearly off his head, the guy thought the paper was some kind of present and kept stuffing it in his pocket while trying to shake Tony's hand… you had to be there. Tony did a great job finding the hotel how the hell we would have managed I have no idea. I think I like this place.
