Where on earth is Ciara? Part I

Shaolin, China

Friday 13 June 2008

Shaolin is famous for two things - monks and kung fu.

We enjoyed a kung fu show (well, technically I think it was 'wushu' but to the untrained eye it's the same thing). There were some impressive stunts. Later we saw hundreds and hundreds of children practising various types of acrobatics, kick-boxing and weapon-throwing.

We saw lots of temples... I was starting to get temple fatigue - I felt bad that I couldn't appreciate them properly but, having seen so many similar buildings in the past couple of weeks, it was all starting to look the same.

We then went to the Pagoda Forest - historically, when important monks died they were cremated and their ashes put into tall stone pagodas.

Also, I bumped into Ludwig and Bjorn again! Crazy...
