Shark Dive Two.
We managed to get up at 3:30am this time and met Pilimer at 4am by the office. There were only three of us going out with Pilimer today so we had to go out on a different boat with another dive company. We had to wait for the other people so didn't actually leave the beach until 5am! We sat and watched the full moon, it was huge and just on the horizon.
We went to a different dive site this time. It was really quiet and we were the only boat there. We could see the other dive site from where we were, there were at least fifty people there again. The team leader from the other dive company told Pilimer we had to stay with them but as soon as we jumped in the four of us began a quick descent and swam away from them.
Pilimer didn't take us to the slope this time where all the other divers would be. Instead he took us above it where the surface was flat, the water visability was so clear today we could see about twenty meters away from us.
After about five minutes of being there we watched a Manta Ray cruise by us! It was our first one so we were really excited. We watched as it flew gracefully through the water and then slowly faded away into the blue.
Ten to fifteen minutes passed and we hadn't seen a thing. Me and Chris looked at each other confused, like what's going on. We just kept circling around the same areas. Then suddenly from around a rock came a shark at last!
The shark came quite close as if it was checking us out. I held my breath slightly to slow down the amount of bubbles releasing from my regulator so I wouldn't scare him away. Once it realised we wern't food it moved on and so did we.
Moments later we saw a smaller shark, it must have come within four meters of us. The experience was great and just as I imagined it would have been, unlike yesterday's dive on the slope which felt like we were sitting in a cinema, all we needed was the pop corn!
For the rest of the dive we saw two more big sharks and one more small one. We may have seen the same shark more than once though. On our way up when we were about to begin our safety stop we spotted another large shark. Chris must have been in ore as he wouldn't take his eyes of it. The three of us watched as he began to swim deeper and closer to it without realising he was. I was a bit worried at that moment because he was on his own with the shark, then he looked up and realised how far he had drifted from us and started to swim back over lol.
When we came back up to the surface we were so excited about how great the dive was. So excited we have already decided to go one last time before we leave the island but only if we go to the same spot again and not the slope.
We went back for breakfast and spent the day around the pool again. The skinni cat was in the same spot as yesterday. I ran to the room and filled the ashtray with some milk then gave it to the cat. I have decided to call her Skinni Mini. She looked up at me with her very dry eyes as if to say thank you then drank the whole lot, then I filled the ashtray with some meatloaf, she loved it and gobbled it up within minutes, then she went to sleep under the trees again like yesterday. I felt I had done my good deed for the day :-)
A little later Chris taught me how to play table tennis. I didn't realise how competitive the sport makes you, I felt like Monica from friends, not as good as her though, well not yet. Chris thought it would be funny to hit the ball as hard as he could into my stomach, it wasn't funny, it left a red mark!
Chris got bored so climbed a coconut tree leaning over the swimming pool and he couldn't resist the urge to jump into the pool. He's just an over grown child.
On our way to lunch we bumped into some of the staff from our hotel, they asked us to join them at the festival party tonight. We don't have to be up early tomorrow so we agreed to meet them later.
We took advantage of the happy hour(s) in our resort and drank a couple of cocktails each, then we got freshened up for the evening. We saw the guys and told them we were going for dinner first. We didn't expect to be long but Chris was still hungry after eating dinner so we went to the barbecue stand. We only got a couple of meat sticks this time and bought a bottle of rum for only P80 Which is about £1.10! We mixed it with coke but it was still very strong, Chris had to finish mine.
It was getting late so we assumed the two guys we were meeting would already be at the festival. We made our way over to the beach, it was lively but not that exciting. There was a live band and a couple of women dancing. Chris thought they looked a bit like prostitutes, they didn't look far off.
We didn't stay long, we went back to our resort. The two guys were still there waiting for us. We felt a bit bad so sat down and shared our rum and coke with them.
Apparently there was another festival further inland but it wouldn't be worth going to until tomorrow night. Me and Chris had already started drinking tonight so we wern't going to stop. The two guys stayed with us and then Marja the bar lady came and joined us for drinks. We carried on drinking until the youngest had to go to bed. He had to be up early for work tomorrow! Good luck to him we thought.
So the four of us went in search for somewhere else to drink. We went to a local karaoke bar and had a great time there! Chris got through a two litre bottle of beer on his own!
It must have been about 3:30am when we left the bar and went to the beach. We passed a closed shop on the way. Marja woke up the owner so we could get more rum! We apologised to her but she wasn't annoyed, infact she was pleased to see us just for the sale in her shop.
The rest of the night was a bit of a blur, Chris and the other guy fell asleep on the sand. They were completely out of it! So me and marja went back to the room to get some music and left the two of them in the safety of a friend. When we got back they hadn't moved an inch!
I woke Chris up at 5am. People were appearing getting ready for shark diving, they laughed at us as we walked back though the village to our room lol oops.
