Ho Chi Minh City Night Market.
The rain struck again last night, this time it was a thunder storm. We sat outside wrapped up in our blankets and watched the lightening streaks dance across the sky. The thunder was so powerful we could feel the vibrations tremble through the ground and it didn't feel as muggy when we left this morning to go back to Phnom Penh.
The first thing we did when we got back was pick up our passports from the tourist shop. We sat down and they passed them over, there was a guy with the lady that served us the other day, he had a worried look on his face. I could tell straight away that something was wrong. Chris checked our visas and noticed the dates were wrong! After arguing with them and going back and fourth to the shop they finally sorted it out with the embassy. They made us pay half the cost to extend them though which really annoyed us so we cheered ourselves up by finding a really nice Indian restaurant and stuffed our fat faces with curry and beer! We know there is bound to be a few problems along the way in our travels so we shrugged it off.
We bumped into Rambo our Tuk Tuk driver from the other day, he told us some terrible news. Apparently the night bus that left after our bus was ordered to take a different route that the driver didn't know. The driver went around the corner too fast and the coach flipped! Two people died and seven people were in hospital, a little girl lost her arm! I felt sick in my stomach when he told us this and hope that nothing so terrible happens to us.
Earlier on we came across the night
Market opening up. It looked like it would be quite interesting so we decided to go there for dinner tonight.
When we arrived we were surprised to notice there weren't so many tourists there. There were loads of great clothes to buy, I walked around with my eyes wide open wishing I could have it all. But we were shopping for Chris, its been so difficult to find anything in his size, the men are so tiny in asia. Chris was really pleased when he finally found a vest that fitted him!
We continued to walk around and were called at by every stall owner we passed trying to get us to look at their items. We politely refused at first then after the tenth stall we just ignored them.
A large stage was set up in the middle of the market and really drew in a crowd. Young singers were performing so we watched for a moment untill we got bored. The bright lights attracted millions of flies, I don't know how the performers put up with them. We couldn't stand them any longer so we went to find something to eat.
We found some stalls selling a mixture of food like sea food, meat (they had fried sparrows!), fruit and Cambodian sweets. We bought some sea food on sticks and sat on a mat on the floor instead of a table, it was really good and cheap!
Overall we have enjoyed Cambodia, especially Otres Beach, coming here has been a learning experience for us that we will never forget. Chris especially loved the fact he could buy a large beer for the same price or cheaper than water!
We leave early tomorrow morning for Vietnam, we are really looking forward to spending a month there gradually making our way up north. We have heard they like to eat just about anything so most of all we are looking forward to trying all the different kinds of foods on offer.
