Hue 11th-13th April
(We accidentally deleted the blog about the 36 hour nightmare journey from Vang Vieng to Hue but I'll re-do it soon!)
When we arrived in Hue at 2am, we were absolutely shattered and so thankful of a bed, we paid a little more than we wanted to but were in no fit state to shop around.
The first day in Hue we were still a bit tired so we didn't get very far with the sight seeing, mostly we saw three meals and an early night. The next day we went to the citadel which used to house the imperial city of Hue, this was a really cool structure, the outer walls were 14km long and 2m thick. Now they are more of a tourist attraction but impressive nonetheless. Inside the citadel is the Imperial citadel. This is much smaller but it is where all the royals of Vietnam used to hang out, it includes the imperial palace, some temples and for some reason some elephants (check out the photos). Not trying to confuse you but inside the Imperial citadel is yet another citadel called the forbidden purple city. In the days of imperial Vietnam only the emperor and his slaves were allowed inside this citadel. Now everyone is allowed in it, even us!
Satisfied with our pictures of the old imperial capital we booked our bus to Hoi An and got ready for a hopefully much smoother journey (only 4 hours this time).
