Alex and Sophie's Travels

Pai!, Thailand

Wednesday 3 June 2009

I had the best time in Pai! It's been my favorite place in Thailand by far! Pai is this cute little town surrounded by mountains 4 hours north of Chiang Mai, with not much happening there - just some bars and cafes - so the main thing to do there is, er, nothing and just take in the stunning views!

Anna, Davi and myself met up with another backpacker Lotte and on our first day we went to an elephant camp! Oh what fun! Bare-back riding though the forest was painful and difficult (nearly slipped of quite a few times - especially when our elephant charged at a dog!) but none-the-less amazing! But the real fun began in the river! They began by splashing us with water, dipping us under and gently rolling over with us on their backs - but by the end they were literally shaking us off (like a buckaroo) and throwing us over their heads with their trunks! Now I read that back its sounds dangerous - but I don't think it was -they were obviously really strong and powerful but so gentle and calm - I felt completely safe the whole time (so don't panic mum!)! It was one of the best days I've had!

The next day we were aching so we did a days Yoga Class with a crazy old Thai woman to ease it all out but actually seemed to make it worse!

We spent a few days in Pai driving around the local countryside on Scooters - they cost us 100 Baht (less than 2 pound) for 2 days! Scooters are amazing! I want one when I get home! The wind in our hair, film set backdrop, cooling off in waterfalls, dodging stray chickens and cows!

So I fell I love with Pai but luckily I had a reason to leave (meeting Alex + Nicole!!!Yey!) or else I could have quite easily got stuck there doing nothing!
