Tongariro Alpine Crossing - 26th February

After the white water rafting we parted ways with Neil and Nina as they headed north to the Bay of Plenty while we headed south to Turangi. Not much goes on at Turangi but it was a good base for us to stay the night before we headed off on our 8 hour traverse of the tongariro national park the next day.

The walk was hard work but well worth it, we went past the famous mount doom from lord of the rings (which on a sunny day looks a lot more freindly than in the film!) and some beautiful sulphur lakes, aptly named 'The Emerald Lakes'. The walk took us 1950m above sea level, it was a tough climb, we even noticed our hands swelling up because of the heat and altitude!

After the walk we had just enough time to book our next activity before getting in the car for a two hour drive to Waitomo.

Love
