Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

(We are in Krabi, Thailand at the moment but catching up with muchos missed blogs)

KL 11th - 17th March

This was a while ago now so I might not get all the details quite right! Getting to KL was a massive hassle; we decided to cut costs by getting a local bus across the Singapore Malay border and benefit from the cheaper malay train fares on the other side to get us to KL. This may have been more hassle than it was worth but the sleeper train was a cool experience nonetheless.

Our first day in KL was a bit ofa write off, we didn't sleep too well on the sleeper train (quite hard for people who don't fit in the sleeper cabin area!). We did manage to find a restaurant that served amazing Malaysian food and really enjoyed our evening meal. The next couple of days we spent checking out local shopping malls and eateries, we didn't have much success on the shopping front, thought we'd wait for cheaper prices in Bangkok. On the 13th we went to the bird park which was really cool, they had massive nets so the birds could fly freely around a massive enclosure, some cheeky monkeys managed to get in the park and were fighting the birds for their food! That evening we went to the cool Luna bar which is at the top of one of the big business towers in KL, the pictures of Luna speak for themselves, its really cool (good recommendation Rich Jones).

After two days in KL we met up with Steve and Carla (friends from work) who kindly put us up for two days in the Valencia suburb just outside KL. It was really nice to have some home comforts and a familiar face. Steve also gave us a lift out to the jungle canopy at FRIM (Forestry Research Institute Malaysia) where there is a canopy walkway with great views of KL, Soph was somehow more scared of this than the sky dive!

When Steve dropped us back in KL we were a little sad to be leaving the nice air conditioned house behind! We stayed in KL two more days and went up the Menara sky tower for a meal with a spectacular view (again the pics speak for themselves). We also did some bargain hunting in KL's older districts. Not very successful though, we managed to buy a fan. Next stop Penang Island.

Love Alex and Sophie xxxx
