THE CHARITIES
If you enjoy our site and our adventure, please make the effort to donate to the Charity - Help for Heroes - They deserve our support.
Copy and paste this link into your browser and donate ; http://www.justgiving.com/aimhighchallenge
We are also generating funds for Meru Primary School (Arusha) for Orphans and special needs children which is going to help them buy books hearing aids and other items which they desperatly need. So far we have raised nearly £500 for them.. (Well done Kathleen)..
THE STORY
The highest freestanding mountain in the world, Kilimanjaro is also the highest mountain on the African continent at 5896m. (19,330 ft). Remembering that Everest base camp is at 5,400m. (17,500ft.) The summit is also the closest place on the entire Earth to the Sun.
Kilimanjaros snow-capped summit rises high above the dusty plains of the Serengeti and huge permanent glaciers flow down from the summit; these views will be the reward for pushing our limits both physically and mentally.
Our trek starting at the beginning of October 2009, takes the less-trodden Rongai route, allowing us to camp and fully appreciate the splendor of our surroundings and the clear night skies. and a million stars and vivid planets We pass through thick forest, moorland and scree enroute to the highest point, Uhuru Peak.
This is a very challenging trek at altitude, climbing one of the most impressive and well-known mountains in the world.
Our team, as is very apt for a year which has the Ashes being played in England, is made up of Australians and Englishmen. Ian (Craigy), Peter (The Boss), Andrew (Oz) , Richard (Fethy), Michael (Brownie), Joe (JJ), and Kathleen (has been training on the hills in Holland!!).
(In fact Ian and Richard have known each other longer than Michael and Joe and Andrew have actually been on the planet!)
Asking around, it seems like quite a few people know someone who has been to Kilimajaro, however not many have actually been themselves. Also quite a number of those we have met who did go, didn't actually make it to the top.. Hmmm.. so it not such a walk in the park !!
So she is not to be underestimated - However words like Tanzania, Kenya, 19,360ft, Serengeti, a million stars, volcano, glacier and extreme temperatures fill us with excitement.
We just don't want the others to go and not be with them.
WE WOULD LOVE TO BE SENT ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE ABOUT OUR TRAINING, ORGANISATION OR THE EVENT ITSELF, ALSO ALL THE EXTRA MOTIVATION YOU CAN GIVE US WILL BE VERY GRATEFULY RECEIVED. (AND PROBABLY NEEDED).
