Lots more rain in the night and early morning but it clears after breakfast and we head into town. Bright sky and sunshine create fabulous reflections of the recently sandblasted tower across the harbour. We cross the swing bridge and reach the edge of the harbour we know well from past visits.
La Rochelle lives up to its nickname of White City today, the pale stone buildings standing out in sunshine. Although it is late November many of the bars and restaurants have their terraces laid for lunch. We meet N+G who came in by motorbike and find a restaurant call La Canot - The Canoe' and sit outside for a very good lunch.
Later we take a walk through the old town where there are some wonderful carved facades, columns and friezes, plus long arcades with shops starting to arrange their Christmas displays. In one street we find Jolly's, a famous macaroon and chocolate shop and buy a few of their goodies. Then it's back around the harbour for the twenty minute walk to the car park. We might have been delayed and frustrated getting here but we all agree La Rochelle has been a very good stop.
Leaving the town is not easy in 'stop-hour' traffic which queues endlessly to its outskirts. A ten mile drive to our selected Passion takes almost an hour, but we arrive in Marsilly to the most wonderful sunset.
Ali and Grete go to meet the owner of L'Autruche de Laurette, an ostrich farm of 300 birds.
After our substantial lunch we have a supper of picky-bits and an early night.
