So, I am writing my final blog post while riding a train through the heartland of America on the way to my Dad in Burlington, IA, and after visiting half of my family in Denver the other in Minnesota, and posting this just before I get to MN on May 14th. I must apologize to my blog followers on my deception about being in China all this time, but I hope you can understand it was needed to surprise most of you ;)
Traveling the world for the last 11 months has been the best decision I have made. I have learned to never regret anything you do only regret what you don't do. I can recommend for those who would like to do something similar someday to just go for it. The people you meet and adventures you have along the way(good or bad) are well worth the minimal risk it takes to do something like this. Jumping off the plank truly is the hardest part... swimming is easy.
I cant thank enough all the hosts I had throughout the world and how amazing they have been. Some whom had hosted me multiple times(Manuel and Rami). I am convinced Couchsurfing is the way to world peace and creating a better world. Treating people like you would like to be treated is a great human characteristic and is well demonstrated with Couchsurfing.
The people I met along the way will be what I remember, and will miss the most about traveling. I have found you can never hold the people of a nation to the politics of the nation. The people are substantially better and more interesting. When traveling I noticed to truly discover a countries culture and people you must go to the countryside. Some of the worlds finest people would be found in the rural areas of the world.
I have developed a massive love affair with traveling and I think the only thing that can slow me from it is family. This is also why I am returning now. Today, May 14th, 2011 is the day that one of the greatest women I have had the great honor to know and call my cousin graduates from College. Education is the best thing one can attain for oneself, it is something nobody can take from you, it is what can change the world, it determines the fate of countries around the world. Graduation day, is also when I finally, and officially realized my dream to travel the world was going to come true. It is one of the more important and liberating days in your life...and Clarissa, I wouldn't miss yours for the world. ;)
